Now that that other medieval term "bugger" has been appropriated by postmodern advertising agencies, there are not many lovely terms left.
I personally like "uphill gardener" as sort of bucolic and well-suited to the provinces. Sodomite always struck me more as an urban term - since the City of Sodom really existed. How about "Ghomorrites", to honour the twin city?
