Nude rugby, 2012 season

Dunedin again hosted the annual Nude Blacks versus whoever is the visiting test team and this year it's the South African Springbox.
The Nude Blacks did some excellent preparatory work, video here, with a skinny dip in the Southern Ocean's surf, and some good aerobic rowing practice.
Then it was on to the match, complete with blind referee and a splendid haka, led by a new rising Nude Black superstar, who we want to see much more of in the future. Video here

Upholding classical traditions

The classical Greeks would have approved, not of the team sport, but of the attire. The annual Nude Blacks versus Welsh Leeks rugby match was played again on a wintry Dunedin pitch. Now if only the World Cup would be played like this, we wouldn't make a loss on match attendance or TV viewership. It would no doubt truly be a stadium of 4 million for the boys!

Rugby, as it should be played

That mid-winter time-honoured perennial ritual, the nude rugby match in Dunedin, was upon us again at the weekend, with a hard-fought match between the Nude Blacks and the Welsh Leeks.

TV3 has fantastic video footage of the match here, for which they are risking a telling off by the Broadcast Standards Authority because some anti-nude wowser group is planning to lay a formal complaint.

All sports should be played sans-clothes. It makes it worth participating, and watching!

That time of year: nude rugby again

I bet more fun was had at the annual mid-winter nude rugby match in Dunedin at the weekend than at the actual (clothed in expensive sponsors' gear) test between the All Blacks and France.

Mid-winter rugby

We like to ignore rugby matches, unless they involve horny after-match scrums in 5 star hotel bedrooms, or student traditions. Now Mark Simpson found an American newspaper report about naked beach rugby in Dunedin. It completely erroneously states that the players were members of the ABs or Bok squads. But the men in the pictures are certainly far better looking than any of the current NZ alpha rugby males.

It's a wonderful Winter cold tradition we have discussed before and long may it continue.

Real men play rugby au naturel

There's been a bit of a kerfuffle about the publication of a picture in the Sunday Star Times (sadly not online) and whether it was offensive for readers, who were either spewing in their brunch lattes or in the midst of their Sunday AM post-orgasm afterglow.
At least the Sydney Morning Herald didn't mind publishing their version online, and here it is:

Can't find the SST's version, which had more in the way of ball handling skills on show, but if you have a link, please let me know.
UPDATE: The SST won't be repeating the "mistake" of publishing unpixillated male meat, and television crews are being instructed not to focus on any streakers at rugby matches. Another reason not to watch sport on telly.
