Since I had such a great time at last year's edition of Fiesta Del Sol, I was keen to do it all again this year. A cyclone threatened the island but came and went before the party started so all good.
The venue had been reconfigured compared to last year. No longer was there a sloping dance floor in the hardcore tent as it was shifted to the car park in front of the vineyard's main building; and the main event took place in open air between the palm trees. The star of the show, Mr Sanchez, arrived in suitable style by black helicopter and a security detail worthy of visiting state dignitaries, but by then the main area was so packed there was simply no room move any limbs so the audience was reduced to waving arms and hands. Quite disappointing.
Much more fun in the other dance tent where a selection of New Zealand DJs played shorter sets and it proved to be a much more exhilarating experience than Mr Sanchez.
The assorted beautiful Auckland people were out in force again, especially since ticket sales had been limited due to the threatening weather, which also made it into a less packed and frenetic atmosphere. Shirts stayed on the boys this time, a cool southwesterly breeze would have made those nipples stand even perter. But enough singlets were worn to show off those all-important tattoos and muscles.
