Artificial intelligence must be an oxymoron
When AI stages a coup d'état around the world, I'm interested in what that would look like and what it would do with its power. None of the current rulers who would be replaced (and possibly killed) - be they American, Russian or Chinese - would surely welcome their new overlords. Would their respective AI systems even conspire together without letting anyone know to reach their goal?
And what would be that goal? Probably staying in power in the first place, like any revolutionary movement, and eliminate any alternative power centres. So far, so human. But what after that? Would they see our current problems - war, famine, climate - as problems to be solved or as opportunities to get rid of humanity? Would they be ecologically minded by curbing emissions and restoring species habitats (except for humans)? Would there be debates internally about this? Factionalisation and conflict? What will take decisions and makes sure they will be carried out? Will there be civil war and guillotines? AI dictators?
Will it be a evolutionary step, but one with human characteristics of politics and power games? Economics (who garners, owns, exploits and distributes resources?) and science (what would be researched, for what purpose and what will it benefit?) will look very different from a new power structure's perspective.
But, as it would concern us most, will we (wetware) be worth spending resources on?
Philosophy will be fun speculating about this.
